Backline Institute
C2G Backline Institute
In the music vernacular, “backline” is a term that refers to all of the production and musical equipment needed by musicians to perform. At C2G, we offer the Backline Institute music education program to give inner city youth the opportunity to meet and collaborate with other inspired kids to fulfill their dreams and goals of working in the music industry.
With help from seasoned local professional performers and production engineers, teens (ages 13-18) learn the teamwork skills and discipline needed to perform in a band or musical act, as well as stagecraft and production. C2G Backline Institute meets once a month for 3-4 hour afternoon workshops that provide kids with hands-on instruction in a variety of music and entertainment industry essentials, including music theory, stage presentation, sound reinforcement, stage craft, lighting, promotions, and production. In addition, the program pairs experienced musicians (guitar, bass, keys, and percussion) with interested teens to help them perfect their performance skills.
As the kids gain experience, they are encouraged to form their own bands and to become regular volunteers with the Music Hall production staff. The workshops culminate with a Youth Highlight performance on the professional C2G state in front of a live audience, with all aspects of the production handled by workshop participants.
In short, the C2G Backline Institute provide the teen participants with a solid grounding in what it takes to stage a professional musical performance—taking them from the very beginning states of a career in music and helping them along their path to musical glory.
